Australian Institute for Innovative Materials – Processing and Devices (AIIM P&D)

The AIIM (P&D) facility was developed to expand the University of Wollongong’s research capabilities, providing a purpose-built space for the Australian Institute for Innovative Materials. The four-level building includes dedicated research and administration areas across the Ground, Level 1, and Level 2, with Level 3 housing essential plant infrastructure. A two-storey link connects the new facility to the existing AIIM building, incorporating advanced electron microscopy suites, preparation laboratories, offices, and a 140-seat seminar room.

The medical research laboratories meet international PC2 and PC3 standards, supporting high-level scientific work. Architecturally, the building features award-winning timber and CLT/GLT materials, selected for their aesthetic appeal and non-conductive properties—critical for housing sensitive electromagnetic microscopy equipment.
